Ansgar Schaefer leads SEA DREAM, a programme which funds regional research collaboration across Southeast Asia since 2025. In his role has Head of Programme, he facilitates SEA DREAM’s ambition to enable Southeast Asian–led, multi-country research consortia that generate impactful health research, nurture leadership and talent, foster regional collaboration, and strengthen sustainable research ecosystems. Focusing on urgent regional health priorities - including infectious diseases, climate change and health, mental health, and health systems and access to care - SEA DREAM has launched its first DREAM 4 Health Call for Proposals in January 2026. Through this work, Ansgar aims to connect partners across academia, government, funders and implementation teams to build inclusive research capacity and contribute to a stronger regional research ecosystem.
