Professor Jarir At Thobari is a clinical pharmacologist and pharmacoepidemiologist at the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia. He leads the Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit and has extensive expertise in infectious disease research, including tuberculosis, typhoid, pneumococcal disease, gastroenteric diarrhea, dengue, COVID-19, and antimicrobial resistance.
He is actively involved in multi-centre clinical trials and vaccine research across the Asia-Pacific region. As Principal Investigator, he has led multiple vaccine trials, including the neonatal RV3-BB rotavirus vaccine, and serves as PI for studies on vaccine cost-effectiveness, vaccine uptake, and infectious disease surveillance. His work spans early-phase trials, effectiveness studies, and post-marketing safety through population-based pharmacovigilance and data linkage systems.
He serves as Co-Lead of the Asia Pacific Vaccine Research Network and contributes to regional collaboration through ARISE. He also contributes to national policy as a member of the Indonesia Technical Advisory Group for Immunization (ITAGI), supports regulatory evaluation at Indonesia’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM), and is an active member of the national Health Technology Assessment (HTA) committee, while collaborating globally to strengthen clinical trial capacity and evidence-based vaccine policy in low- and middle-income countries.
