Dr. Ami Fazlin Syed Mohamed is the Director of the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Malaysia. With over two decades of experience in biomedical research, her expertise encompasses clinical pharmacology, pharmacometrics, and herbal medicine. A medical graduate of the University of Adelaide, she holds an MSc from the University of Glasgow and a PhD in Pharmacometrics from Uppsala University.
Dr. Ami has been a pivotal figure in developing product development pathways for herbal -from preclinical discovery and toxicity studies to clinical trials. She previously headed the Herbal Medicine Research Centre (2015–2024) and currently oversees eight research centres spanning biomedical, diagnostic, public health, and translational research. Beyond her administrative leadership, she serves on the Medical Research Ethics Committee and the Scientific Review Panel for Phase I studies, continuing to shape Malaysia’s national policy and ethical standards in the biomedical research landscape.
